The Stories of This Vagabond

Sick in Lembongan

Hi Gram,
I woke this morning feeling a little off. The display on the AC unit was shining very brightly, which kept waking me up all night. Just before my alarm went off, I was aware that my body was rejecting my lunch and/or dinner from last night. Despite trying to will myself to keep it down, I ended up throwing up a few times. My friends here have been super supportive, bringing me toast and water and offering words of encouragement. I mostly took it easy all morning, lying down with my eyes shut, listening to my audiobook. We’re supposed to be taking a ferry this morning to the main island, then taking a taxi a few hours up to Munduk, the next town we plan to visit.

I don’t want to hold up the group, but I also don’t want to be puking in a boat or car. I got up to gather my stuff and see about catching the ferry with everyone, but it was quickly evident that I wouldn’t make the car and boat rides. Dash decided to stay back with me, Ashley being more of a beach girl than a mountain girl. To say that they took care of me for the rest of the day would be an understatement. I lay in my bed kind of out of it, then next thing I knew, they were carrying my bags, escorting me to a truck taxi, offloading me at a different hotel, and helping me to my room. I woke there a couple hours later, then they helped me find some bland lunch, got me some meds and water, and just made sure I was comfortable and cared for. After a few hours, we even went for a walk down to the beach and had some refreshing drinks over conversation and waves crashing on the shore. Tired, we headed back to the hotel and I just crawled back into bed.
