The Stories of This Vagabond

Salad For the Oddball

Hi Gram,
I took it easy with my walk this morning. My legs are still hurting so I didn’t do any stairs, just walked a 4 mile loop on relatively flat ground. Nattiya didn’t join me, so I just listened to a podcast and cruised along. I got back earlier than usual – I think I also left earlier than usual – so I had time to work on my brain exercises and take my time before eating breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, it was delicious! I’ve been having a mix of berries, yogurt, and oatmeal that I mix ahead of time so the flavors can blend, then I mix in some sunflower seeds just before I eat it so they add a crunch and some nutrients.

It was all perfect this morning, then I headed to Klausfit. That all went well too, we met a couple of new people, and before I knew it I was drenched in sweat, exhausted, and glad for it. I headed back to the room, then the rest of the day went as usual – shower and rest, then lunch, then nap and some computer work, then yoga class, another shower, then an afternoon of air conditioning and booking our travel to Cambodia next week.

As I was finishing my visa application and booking the hotel, Nattiya patiently waited then surprised me with a fancy salad plate for dinner. A colorful and decoratively plated meal with hard boiled eggs, lettuce, carrots, red peppers, and a variety of other vegetables all a good size for eating with my hands, my preferred method. Do you know what’s great about this woman? I mean besides creating such a dinner? She doesn’t blink an eye at my dorkiness and eccentricity. “Oh, you’re going to eat your salad with your fingers instead of the silverware I brought you? Okay, here’s a napkin and your glass of water,” she seemed to say with her eyes, not giving it any more thought. Such a delight! After dinner, I finished up my applications, put away the computer, and put on some music we could listen to. Music doesn’t need a translator! The rest of the night was just lazing around, kind of mind-numb and each doing our own thing until it was time for bed.
