The Stories of This Vagabond

Impossible Sandwich

Hi Gram,
I had a bit of a lazy day today. I happily woke with no alarm, being that it’s Sunday, and lazed around for a little bit. Knowing I couldn’t just stay in bed or watch YouTube all day, I got dressed and walked down to Mitte Mitte with Natiya. I have been looking forward to their yogurt parfait all week long, and my mouth was watering as we walked in. We got our drinks, then the tragedy struck. When I tried ordering the parfait, I was gently informed that they’re out of yogurt. Crushed, on the verge of sobbing, (not really, I’m being melodramatic but I was kind of bummed) I perused the menu and found a bacon and egg bagel sandwich that looked like it could satisfy. Natiya ordered a dish that included fluffy eggs that ran when she cut into them, some bacon, and some sort of biscuit or cake.

They both looked amazingly delicious when they arrived, and we set to dig in. I looked at mine from a few different angles before, chuckling, just picked it up. Presentation is a big thing here, so my sandwich was perfectly stacked and symmetrical. It had a ring decoration with flares like a star, making it look spectacular – but the ring was made of a sweet orange sauce. There was no way to lift it without getting sauce all over my fingers and ruining the decoration. That’s exactly what I did, though, after cutting it in half. Pretty food is nice, but delicious food is more interesting to me. Natiya and I had some good chuckles as we chatted and translated, neither of us in a rush to go.

Go, though, we did eventually. She had some chores to do back home, so we parted ways and I walked back to the hotel. The rest of the afternoon was a bit of a blur of computer work, catching up on things, and napping. Around 5, Natiya came over where we tried watching a Thai movie with English subtitles on YouTube for a bit. I think it was a pretty old movie because the acting was awful and the production value was kind of low. It passed some time nicely, but we got hungry before the end and headed over to the White Orchid restaurant nearby. It had a nice ambience with an American movie with German dubbing and Thai subtitles on a tv over the pool table inside.

Despite sounding like a hole-in-the-wall bar, it was actually a decently romantic little spot. The table was inside by the bar, but we sat at a table out by the walkway. We had a gentle breeze blowing and an electric candle/orb centerpiece on the table, with a few other couples staring longingly at each other over their meals. Our meals came quickly, but there was more food than we could eat, so I had my leftovers boxed up and we headed back to the room. I started feeling a little woozy shortly after we returned, so unfortunately the rest of the evening was spent with me curled up like a little kid, sipping water while Natiya nurtured me and made sure I was comfortable. I happily fell asleep early and luckily woke the next day feeling much better.
